Championship weekend is here and a surprising number of the 16 teams still remaining are firmly in a situation where they have to win at least their first game this weekend if they want to qualify for the NCAA tournament.

While 11 teams are complete locks to make the NCAA tournament, and another is one underdog elimination from joining them, only five of those teams are actually playing for a conference championship and automatic bid this weekend. That creates a volatile situation where scoreboard-watching becomes the norm for most of the best teams in the country, including three of the four top seeds in the NPI. No. 1 Michigan is the only one not watching from their couches this weekend.
