Tournament Takes Day 2: UMD ends Penn State's season as favourites sweep

Albany, NEW YORK — Tight games and upsets were the story of Day 1 of the NCAA tournament.

Not so much Day 2.

The top seeds won every game, by a combined score of 16-3. Only one of them, Penn State vs. Minnesota-Duluth, was all that close.

It sets up a Sunday loaded with some of the biggest names in college hockey, but also means these opening-round games were largely free of drama, if not of highlights for the victors.

It was close all the way, but the result wasn't really a surprise.

The reigning national champions knocked off the top team in the CCHA for the second year in a row, with a pair of second-period goals (plus an empty-netter) while mostly c
